Continuing our commitment to quality training, the Tri-County Motor Unit has scheduled recertification for 2011.
Sponsored by the Montgomery County Chiefs' of Police Emergency Vehicle Driver Training Program, this course will refine the coordination, skills and confidence necessary for the motor officer to continue to operate a police motorcycle safely and efficiently. Along with traditional slow cone exercises, braking exercises will be stressed. Time permitting, other skills will be practiced e.g., pair & group riding, escort procedures and rodeo skills.
The Spring course is scheduled for April 27 - 29, 2011 from 08:00 to 16:00 Hours each day. The Fall course is scheduled for September 21 - 23, 2011 from 08:00 to 16:00 Hours each day. Training is held at the Unisys Corporation Headquarters located at Township line & Union meeting Rds in Blue Bell, PA 19422 (Whitpain Township).
Participants must attend all three class days, to obtain a Certificate of Proficiency. The additional time will allow us to concentrate on braking and hazard avoidance exercises that will enhance the safety of all motor officers.
Officers attending this course must have successfully completed a qualified basic motor officer training course. A practical exam will be administered during the course and officers will be required to attain a minimum score to receive a certificate. In order to provide the quality of instruction our students have become accustomed to class size will be limited to twenty (20) motor officers, so register early.

The Tri-County Motor Unit has scheduled a Basic Police Motorcycle Operator's Course for the Spring 2011.
Sponsored by the Montgomery County Chiefs' of Police Emergency Vehicle Driver Training Program, this course focuses on ten practical exercises that stress low-speed maneuverability, evasion techniques, and high-speed braking skills, students of our program spend approximately 90% of the course "in the saddle." They will be given practical exercises and riding instruction supplemented with classroom instruction and demonstrations of tactical techniques. All of our instructors are Northwestern University certified, and our curriculum is approved by the University and Harley-Davidson. In order to provide the quality of instruction our students have become accustomed to class size will be limited so register early.
The eighty (80) hour course is scheduled for Monday, May 2, 2011 to Friday, May 13, 2011. Training is held at the Unisys Corporation Headquarters in Blue Bell, PA. Class will begin promptly at 08:00 hours and end at 16:00 hours each day. The cost per student is $200 for Montgomery County, PA Departments, and $300 for all other Departments. Each student must supply their own motor to be used during training. Lodging information is available upon request.
